How to make roman blinds in 10 easy to follow steps. You will be amazed at how easy it is to make these great looking blinds.
1. First thing you should do is measure the height and width of the window. Add about 200mm to the height if you want to install the blind above the window.
2. To determine how much material you need you simply divide the width of the window by the width of the material. Say for instance the window is 2000mm and you divide by 1200mm material width you get 1.66. Always mark up to the next full inch, thus 2 inch widths. This is how to make roman blinds that looks professional.
3. You need to add 400mm to the finished height of your blind for allowances. Now take the total of your height measurement and multiply it by the 2inch widths to get the total amount of material you need to cover yor window.
4. Cut two lengths of the total height of your window that you determined in the previous step and sow them together side by side so that you have material large enough to cover the width and height of your window.
5. Make the spacing between each panel about 300mm. Make the top panel a bit larger so that the roman blind can stack up underneath the top panel.
6. Just divide the height of the blind by 300mm and make sure the top panel is at least 400mm.
7. Marking the material is easy. Just turn it over and start marking from the top 500mm, then 300 below that one and keep on until you marked al the lines.
8. At each line form a pocket where your will put in the battons with the rings attached.
9. Sew Velcro on the top of the blind and also put adhesive Velcro on a timber blind to attach your blind with. Insert the battons into the pockets of the material and attack the rings on every second batton.
10. Put your cord through the rings and you now have a fully functional roman blind for your window.
